Winners of the Case of the Week, 2012

This is the 14th year that we are posting the list of winners. Overall 365 participants found at least one correct answer for our cases of the weeks this year. Many more people just looked and tried to solve our cases from time to time. As usual I am humbled by the quality of all those who answered, their dedication to learning and their efforts in solving very difficult cases on just a few images. Congratulations to all sucessfull solvers! I would also like to thank all of those who had the generosity of their time to share their cases, TheFetus.net would not be able to continue without those.
A particular thanks, as always goes to Fabrice Cuillier for all his superbly documented cases.
Moreover, there are another and new contributors for the case of the weeks as well as for the articles such as Dr Francesco Contarin, Dr Elena Andreeva , Dr Moshe Bronshtein, Dr Emmanuel Julien, etc... Finally, thanks to Mikhail Medvedev(ÐœÐ¸Ñ…Ð°Ð¸Ð» ÐœÐµÐ´Ð²ÐµÐ´ÐµÐ²), for all his support in Russia and Eastern countries.

Dr Castro lives in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He works in the obstetrics and gynecology department at a local general hospital. Dr Descriaud, 36 years old, is the mother of 3 wonderful children, 2 boys and1 girl (11, 9 and 2 years old). The Republic of Dagestan (also spelled Daghestan) is a republic of Russia, located in the North Caucasus region. Its capital and the largest city is Makhachkala, located at the center of Dagestan on the Caspian Sea. With a population of 2,910,249. Dr Esetov works as a doctor in the prenatal diagnosis of the Republic Clinical Hospital in Makhachkala for over 20 years. He has two daughters, a son and four grandchildren. Dr. Nabil Thawabteh from Palestine , MBBS , OBS & GYN , Fetal medicine consultant, graduated from Jordan university hospital, specialized in AL-Makased hospital in East Jerusalem, and had an instructive course in fetal medicine from Queen Elizabeth hospital in Bermingham UK, and now working in fetal medicine unit in Al-Makased hospital and in Razan medical center for IVF and assisted reproduction in Ramallah Congratulations!

Dr Deblieck is also one of the enthusitatic doctors who has sent the cases and followed up the website for many years. Dr Julien has been concentrating on fetuses with birth defects for many years. His experience helped him to solve our cases with an ease and so is among the winners for this year again. Emmanuel loves painting and here is his first self portrait oil on canevas from 1987.

Nickolay Petrovich Veropotvelyan, 26 solved cases, Ukraine

Dr Veropotvelyan is from Ukraine and works as a director of the Multiregional Medical Genetics and Prenatal Diagnostics Center in Kryvyi Rih. He is also a vice-president of the Perinatal Medicine Ukrainian Association and specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical Genetics, Ultrasound diagnostics and also in Organization and management of public health. He is married and has two sons. Nickolay was awarded - Zolotiy Hrest Chesti I Zvytyagy “Lytsar Vitchyzny” - a Gold Cross of Honor and Valor ”Knight of Fatherland” and a sword (inscribed with his name) of the “Ukrainian Knight Legion”. Nickolay stands among winners for the third time in this competition. He solved 26 of our cases this year, and his answers are usually very straightforward and accurate. Congratulations! Dr Bogomazova lives and works in Donetsk City (Eastern Ukraine) as a doctor of Prenatal Diagnostics in the Donetsk Regional Medical Association for more than 20 years.
