Walker-Warburg syndrome

Meyer Serrano, MD

Colombia

This is a 31-year-old woman, G3P1, referred to our service due to a microcephaly at 30 weeks. The scan revealed a Dandy-Walker malformation, agenesis of the corpus callosum, hydrocephaly and microcephaly.

The baby was born vaginally at 37 weeks (female, weight 2250 g) and required ventilation immediatly.  She died after 21 days due to pneumonia. She never developed a suction reflex.

A postnatal MRI confirmed the prenatal findings. The baby also had a lissencephaly and optical atrophy. Although it was no possible to document a muscular dystrophy, the Walker-Warburg syndrome was suspected.

Note the hydrocephaly and the Dandy-Walker malformation
