Trisomy 18

Case report

The images below show a case of a fetus with trisomy 18 obtained at 21 weeks of pregnancy. We could observe several abnormalities on the fetus:

  • dilated thick-walled urinary bladder;
  • umbilical cord cyst;
  • bilateral hyperechoic hypoplastic kidneys;
  • bilateral plexus choroid cyst (Figure N°3A);
  • hypoplastic ears;
  • club feet;
  • abnormal position of the fingers of the hands;
  • unilateral cleft lip;
  • ventricular septal defect.

Images 1, 2: Image 1 shows thick-walled dilated urinary bladder of the fetus. Image 2 shows an umbilical cord cyst.
