Teratoma of the face

Israel Meizner, MD

Definition: A tumor originating from any of the three germinal layers. These tumors have a disorganized  structure and can be very vascular.  Teratomas of this region include:

  • epignathus (nasopharyngeal teratoma),
  • pharyngeal  and
  • submandibular teratoma.

A teratoma should be distinguished from hemangioma of the face, since the face is a frequent site for Hemangiomata.
