Case report
This is a case of a healthy G2 P0 who was scanned at our department at 18 weeks of gestation. Her first trimester ultrasound screening was negative. She had non-contributive family or personal history.
The ultrasound exam detected the following findings:
- Marked dilation of the left ventricle without signs of contractility
- Narrow aorta on the three vessel view
- Reversed flow via ductus arteriosus
Our diagnosis based on the ultrasound exam was a severe aortic stenosis.
The follow-up ultrasound in 2 weeks showed that left ventricle was of the same size as the right ventricle but with signs of endocardial fibroelastosis.
The patient decided for pregnancy termination. The pathological report confirmed our findings, the final diagnosis was a supravalvular aortic stenosis.
Images 1,2: 18 weeks, 3-vessel view, images show the ductus arteriosus (blue) and aorta (red) with a reverse flow from the ductus arteriosus.
