Case report

The images below show a case of spina bifida diagnosed during the second trimester scan.

Images 1, 2: The image 1 shows a transverse scan of the fetal head with enlargement of the lateral cerebral ventricles. The image 2 shows coronal scan of the fetal lumbar spine with spina bifida which explains the cranial finding.

Images 3, 4: The image 3 represents a coronal scan of the fetal spina bifida. The image 4 shows an oblique parasagittal scan which looks almost normal. This is an example which shows an importance of assessment of the spine in all three orthogonal planes.
