Case report

This is a case of a 23-year-old G1 P0 who was referred to our antenatal unit at 32 weeks of gestation for evaluation of a cardiac tumor of the fetus. Our ultrasound examination revealed two hyperechoic masses arising from the heart. One of the tumors originated from the interventricular septum and filled the whole left ventricle. The second tumor originated from the free wall of the left ventricle and grew between the heart and the thoracic wall. The whole heart was shifted to the right. There were no other abnormalities detected during the ultrasound examination. Patient delivered at 37 weeks of gestation. The neonate underwent cardiac surgery shortly after delivery and unfortunately died during the surgery. The final diagnosis confirmed by pathologist was cardiac rhabdomyoma.
