Placenta percreta

Alberto Sosa Olavarria, MD

Perinatology Unit, Carabobo University, Valencia – Venezuela

This is a case of placenta percreta with invasion into the bladder. The patient was initially seen for second trimester bleeding at which time a diagnosis of placenta previa was made. Since she had a previous cesarean section she was considered to at risk for a placenta accreta. A repeat 3rd trimester examination (below) demonstrated a placenta percreta (no hematuria, though). The patient later presented to another hospital, with an intrauterine fetal death and massive hemorrhage. In spite of a hysterectomy she died of the complications of the hemorrhage.
