Persistent right umbilical vein

Philippe Deblieck, MD

Case report

This is a case of a 35-year-old, G2 P1, who was scanned at our department at 30 weeks of gestation. We revealed a persistent right umbilical vein which passed to the right of the gallbladder and curved towards the stomach. It was the most common, intrahepatic form of a persistent right umbilical vein. Below are some images of this isolated finding:

Images 1,2: Transverse view of the abdomen at the level of the umbilical vein. Note persistent right umbilical vein which runs along the right side of the gallbladder and curves to the left towards the stomach.
