Case report

Following images show a case of iniencephaly of a 14 weeks, 6 days old fetus of a 30-year-old woman (G1P0) with non-contributive history. Unilateral cataract was also present.

Here are some of the images that we obtained.

Images 1, 2: 14 weeks, 6 days gestational age; transverse oblique scans of the fetal head showing occipital defect with a large meningomyelocele.

Images 3, 4: 14 weeks, 6 days gestational age; coronal scans of the fetal face showing unilateral cataract of the fetus.

Images 5, 6: 14 weeks, 6 days gestational age; 2D (image 5) and 3D (image 6) coronal scans of the fetal spine showing large defect of the cervico-thoracic region of the spine (arrows).

Images 7, 8, 9, and 10: 14 weeks, 6 days gestational age; iniencephaly - 3D images showing dorsal view at the occipital region with meningomyelocele (white arrows on the image 8). Rectangular part of the occiput and meningomyelocele was removed to see the spinal defect (yellow arrows on the image 8).

Images 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16: 14 weeks, 6 days gestational age; iniencephaly - the images represent a few 3D imaging modalities showing fetal profile with meningomyelocele and permanent retroflection of the head.
