Case report
The following images show a case of intestinal obstruction (ileal atresia) revealed at 33 weeks of pregnancy of a 41-year-old woman (G4P3) with noncontributive history. The first and second ultrasound performed at 13 and 22 weeks were reported as normal.
Our ultrasound revealed a moderate polyhydramnios and the bowel enlargement with multiple dilated intestinal segments, which we believed to be an obstruction at the level of the ileum. Unfortunately the fetus died during delivery and an autopsy was not done.
Images 1, 2: 33 weeks; the image one shows a transverse scan of the fetus at the level of the dilated stomach. The image 2 shows a transverse scan of the abdomen at the level of the dilated intestinal segments.
