This is a 20-year-old primigravida without relevant past obstetrical history. The nuchal translucency was 1 mm and the triple test was normal. During the second scan, a gastroschisis was discovered by the sonographer at 22 weeks. No other malformations were detected. An amniocentesis was not performed. In our unit, the scans were performed at 23, 27, 30, 32 and 35 weeks. The patient delivered prematurely at 35 weeks + 2 days. The baby's weight was 2200 g. The surgery was performed few hours after delivery. Now the baby is well and with a normal growth.
2D view at 23 weeks: transverse abdominal view showing the gastroschisis and the umbilical cord and the right.
