Case report
28 year-old (G1P0) was referred to our unit for routine first trimester anomaly scan at 13 weeks 4 days of pregnancy. Our scanning revealed the following anomalies.
The parents opted for interruption of the pregnancy.
Images 1-6, videos 1 and 2: 2D images of the fetal head show cranial anatomy dilated lateral ventricles, slightly dilated third ventricle and all cranial signs of the open spina bifida - large brainstem (BS), non-visible intracranial translucency, large BS/BSOB ratio (brainstem to occipital bone distance) -, the classic banana sign and small frontomaxillary facial angle , which is characteristic for the first trimester fetuses with open spina bifida.
