This is a  41-year-old-woman, G4P3, referred to our department at 16 weeks due to a hydrocephaly. In our antenatal unit, we performed a scan and the ultrasound findings were:

  • hydrocephaly, with dilatation of the third ventricle
  • dilatation of the fourth ventricle, with absence of the vermis
  • two cerebellar hemispheres seemed normal

Because the patient had previous three cardiac strokes and the ejection fraction wass only 15%, the mother requested the termination of pregnancy. Amniocentesis was proposed, but not accepted. After delivery, the external analysis of the fetus was normal.

Note the absence of the cerebellar vermis
