Case report

The following images show a case of the cephalothoracopagus twins diagnosed in our department during a second trimester scanning. The mother was a 24-year-old primigravida with non-contributive history.

Images 1, 2: The images show transverse scans through the conjoined heads of the cephalothoracopagus twins. Note the markedly broad skull with two eyes (image 1).

Images 3, 4: The image 3 shows dorsal aspect of the skull and neck with two low set ears. The image 4 shows bilateral cystic hygromas of the conjoined fetal necks.

Images 5, 6: The image 5 shows transverse scan of the conjoined fetal thoraces with two hearts. The image 6 shows transverse scan of the cephalothoracopagus twins at the level of their abdomens - two stomachs are visible.

Images 7, 8: The image 7 represents sagittal scan of the cephalothoracopagus twins showing their spines. The image 8 shows transverse scan of of the cephalothoracopagus twins at the level of the two separate umbilical cords running in parallel next to each other entering the conjoined abdominal parts of the fetal bodies.

Images 9, 10: The image 9 shows power Doppler image of the division of the umbilical arteries within the caudal parts of the conjoined twins. The image 10 compares femurs of the conjoined twins.
