Case report

The following images show a case of spina bifida with the Chiari malformation type II diagnosed at 17 weeks of pregnancy of a 19-year-old woman (G1P0) with non-contributive history.

Images 1 and 2: 17 weeks of pregnancy; transverse scans of the "lemon-shaped" fetal skull. The image 1 shows a "banana-shaped" cerebellum. The image 2 shows the dilated lateral cerebral ventricles.

Images 3 and 4: 17 weeks of pregnancy; the image 3 shows sagittal scan of the fetal lumbar spine with the spina bifida; the image 4 shows transverse scan of the fetal abdomen at the level of the umbilical cord attachment. The spina bifida is visible protruding dorsally out of the spine.
