Case report: The following images and videos show a striking finding seen at 15 weeks gestation of an otherwise uncomplicated pregnancy without significant past medical or family history. What does the structure labeled by yellow arrowheads represent?

Answer

The finding shown represents physiologic transient fluid accumulation in the main fetal bronchi. In the color Doppler images, breathing flow through the bronchi can be seen. This finding can easily be confused as an anomaly despite being a normal process.
