Her medical history was unremarkable. Following images show a pathology that we had found: View the Answer Hide the Answer Answer Case report We report a case of a 17-year-old woman (G1P0) sent to our office at 21 weeks and 6 day of gestational age. Her medical history was unremarkable. During the ultrasound examination we discovered a bony septum arising from the vertebrae at the level between 10th and 12th thoracic vertebrae and spina bifida aperta. There was some widening of the spinal canal as well. There was cranial signs of spina bifida (Arnold Chiari ruled) and clubfoot. The parents opted for the termination of the pregnancy and the diagnosis of diastematomyelia with spina bifida aperta was confirmed by pathology. Here are some of the images that we obtained. Image 1 shows a coronal section of the thoracic and lumbar spine with spina bifida. Note the widening of the spine and echoic septum (arrow) in the middle of the spinal canal. Image 2 show a 3D rendering of the lumbar spine showing in the midline projecting the spur (asterisk) dividing the spinal canal into two parts (arrow) Images 3, 4: The image 3 shows a transverse scan of the fetal head with enlargement of the lateral cerebral ventricles.
