Umbilical arterial loops ("false knot")

P. Deblieck, MD

Schermbecker Landstr. 88a, 46485 Wesel, Germany

Case report:

In this fetus, at 30 weeks, we observed arterial loops in some cross-sectional areas of the cord with findings of more than 2 arteries. These are usually of no clinical significance as our case was. The healthy baby was born after an uneventful pregnancy. It should be differentiated from persistent small vitelline arteries and from extra vessels in association with conjoined twins.
