Case report
A 30-year-old primigravida was referred to your antenatal unit at 35 weeks of pregnancy for further evaluation of a fetal abdominal mass. Her previous ultrasonographic examinations were normal (NT 1 mm at 12 weeks and normal ultrasound screening at 24 weeks). At 35 weeks the ultrasound scan revealed a cystic structure in the left lower abdomen 50x50x45 mm in diameter. The cyst was surrounded by a rim of soft echogenic solid tissue. The findings were consistent with the diagnosis of the left ovarian cyst. Amniocentesis was not performed. The patient delivered at 40 weeks. Postnatal adaptation of the neonate was normal. Four days after delivery the ultrasound investigation found normal sized ovaries of the neonate.
