Diastematomyelia

This is a G2P1 woman with no relevant past obstetrical history. A scan performed at 22 weeks revealed:

  • An echogenic mass in the spinal canal just anterior to a vertebral body at the level of T12-L1 with the overlying skin intact
  • No signs to suggest meningomyelocele
  • No cranial signs of spina bifida (Arnold Chiari ruled out)
  • Normal limbs with normal movements
  • Fetal echocardiography was normal
  • No other associated anomalies

The diagnosis was a diastematomyelia.
